Finding Forrester Review

                                                           Finding Forrester Review
Finding Forrester is a fantastic tale by Columbia Productions directed by Gus Van Sant. It was released on December 19th, 2000.  The main characters of Finding Forrester are Jamal Wallace (Rob Brown) the creative young man; Forrester (Sean Connery) the crazy old alcoholic that lives alone in his apartment; Crawford (F. Murray Abraham) the rude instructor and finally Claire (Anna Paguin) the sweet young girl that sees Jamal for who he really is just by meeting him for the first time.

Jamal Wallace is a very talented young writer, but since he’s afro-American and from the Bronx so he’s not exactly known for his talent; but for his culture’s reputation. Throughout the story we find out how friendships and relationships can be built through the art of writing. Finding Forrester a phenomenal tale between a boy, and an elderly man and how they share a special talent.

Finding Forrester can be compared to many different things, but the relationship between the two main characters can be recognized often. Jamal and Forrester have a love hate relationship and this happens in many different movies or shows. A relationship like this has happened in the movie Billy Madison, although Finding Forrester is much less comical. This comparison is brought upon because of how the father of Billy in the film had never believed in him, he ended up being successful. In Finding Forrester, Forrester almost takes on the father figure of Jamal, the only issue is that Forrester believed in Jamal the entire way through but had only dropped hints about it.

The acting of the film was unreal amazing, everyone fit their part perfectly. Sean Connery was definitely one of the best choices they could have picked for Forrester. Connery easily made us interested because of his behavior throughout the film. Rob Brown also did a great job at getting people intrigued, he played his part with so much intensity. Also, the setting of the film was a wise decision. They brought an afro-American from the Bronx to a more complex and safer part of New York City, to go to school. Jamal looked so dumbfound because he didn’t appear to be as intelligent as the rest. Or at least they make it seem that way.

The points of friendship and love are brought out throughout this movie at many points. The film shows how relationships can be built in the most unexpected places, in the most indifferent times.
